Yesterday, we got our first look at a brand-new poster and teaser for Roar Uthaug‘s upcoming adaptation of the acclaimed Eidos game series TOMB RAIDER. Starring Alicia Vikander (EX MACHINA, THE DANISH FGIRL) as Lara Croft, TOMB RAIDER centers around the fiercely independent daughter of a missing adventurer, who must push herself beyond her limits when she travels to the island where her father disappeared.
Today, the first full-length trailer for the film has arrived, and I can already hear the swooning echoes of countless fanboys and girls who’re overjoyed to see a young Ms. Croft back on the big screen. Co-starring with Vikander in the film are Walton Goggins (AMERICAN ULTRA, JUSTIFIED), Hannah John-Kamen (READY PLAYER ONE, KILLJOYS), Dominic West (300, THE WIRE) and Daniel Wu (GEOSTORM, WARCRAFT: THE BEGINNING). Uthaug will direct the film based on a script penned by TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT scribe Geneva Robertson-Dworet.
If the trailer’s not enough to whet your appetite, perhaps this behind-the-scenes look at the making of the film will satisfy your crave for more TOMB RAIDER action:
As a fan of the character since her 1996 game debut, I can honestly say that I’m thrilled to see Lara involved in what looks to be a worth while reboot. If I’m being honest, I can scarcely recall a single moment from Paramount Pictures TOMB RAIDER film series starring Angelina Jolie as the film’s Indiana Jones-like lead. It’s true that video game-to-film franchises are hardly ever worth a damn, but someone’s got to break the curse one of these days, right? Perhaps TOMB RAIDER will be that movie, and we can look forward to a few more adventures featuring Vikander as the dangerously daring and delightfully striking Lara Croft.
TOMB RAIDER will begin exploring theaters on March 16, 2018.
